Sharks rugby player gives back with 140 food hampers
MAKAZOLE Mapimpi, wing for the Cell C Sharks Rugby team, donated 140 food hampers to The Domino Foundation’s Disaster Relief Unit which has distributed almost one and a half million meals to the vulnerable in Durban communities over the past five months.
The donation comes after stories surfaced of how the lockdown affected the young learners and other beneficiaries of Domino’s programmes.
Prior to lockdown, the Cell C Sharks Academy were about to kick their relationship with The Domino Foundation up a notch by giving PE lessons to the learners on the Life Skills programme.
Mapimpi was supported by Sharks captain, Lukhanyo Am, and fellow player, Skhumbuzo Notshe, when he handed over his gift to Tarin Stevenson, Domino’s Donor Relations Manager.
“As rugby players, we are so aware of how important working as a team is. Whatever position we are playing, our individual contribution to the team’s success is vital. It is my pleasure to team together with Domino to beat this opponent, Covid-19,” said Mapimpi.
Stevenson said: “We’re on the winning side with teammates like these!”
She encouraged others who would like to be part of the effort to ensure the basic needs of those hardest hit by the lockdown are met to contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org or 031 563 9605.
