Lace up to raise funds for Durban SPCA’s virtual run
THE Durban & Coast SPCA will host its first ever Virtual Run in September to raise funds for the association.
Traditionally the annual SPCA trail run would be held along the banks of the uMngeni River but this year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the association had to think outside the box to get residents to put their best foot forward.
Marketing manager of the Durban & Coast SPCA, Tanya Fleischer explained a Virtual Run is an event you can run at any location, at your own pace, outside or on a treadmill.
“The idea for this year’s Durban & Coast SPCA Virtual Run was to run it over a number of days unlike in the past where the event was over in one day. Participants can run between 7 and 20 September and choose between three distances to give back to our ‘paw’some cause. Traditionally our trail run is one of our biggest fundraisers for us so we are urging all those who want to take part to enter. Since its first year we introduced the trail run, we’ve just seen the numbers increase which is fantastic. This year of course is slightly different due to the pandemic so we are hoping Durbanites will come out in their numbers for the virtual run,” she said.
The association has also partnered with Durban North company, Funky Pants, who have already raised R28 000 for the SPCA.
